World Class Musicians Perform In Koroni

Thursday, August 7, 2008

Two wonderful performances of chamber music took place with great success in Koroni on Thursday, 7 August and Saturday 9 August at the beautiful courtyard of Panaghia the Eleistria.

A large and diverse audience of Greek and international residents and visitors to Koroni applauded with enthusiasm the musicians. A third successful concert took place on Friday, August 8th in the borough of Vasilitsi.

This initiative was conceived by Leo Winland, first cello in the Stockholm Opera, and longtime summer resident and lover of Koroni. He was joined by performers from Sweden, Denmark, Japan and Greece: Katrine Gislinge, (piano), Eriikka Nylund (viola), Yoko Fujita (violin), Lars Bjornkaer (violin), Giannos Margaziotis (violin).

The music performed included works by Vivaldi, Schopin, Schostakovitch, Brahms, and Part. The performances were sponsored by the Municipality of Koroni and the Maniatakeion Foundation. The musicians and the works were introduced by Mrs. Eleni Tagonidi Maniataki, Vice Chairman of the Foundation. Mrs.Eleni Vergi, Deputy Mayor of Koroni, Cultural Affairs, closed the evening by thanking the performers and the audience.

The Maniatakeion Foundation is a non-profit institution dedicated to cultural, social, and development activities for Koroni and the region and takes great pride in supporting events that showcase the region, bring together its diverse population, and invite more people to become familiar with its culture and beauty.
