Our Mission - Our Vision

The Maniatakeion Foundation is dedicated to the systematic promotion of the historical and cultural heritage of the Messinian town of Koroni within the broader narrative of Hellenism. At the same time, it seeks to identify, promote and internationalize the region’s comparative advantages through three core pillars of action: cultural, developmental and social.

The Municipality of Pylos-Nestor has long served as a vital crossroads of Mediterranean cultural and commercial exchange between the Latin West and Greek East. The ports of Koroni, Methoni and Pylos – together with their fertile hinterland and surrounding islands – have historically formed a strategic hub connecting the Ionian and Aegean Seas.

Reintegrating this rich legacy into the contemporary cultural, economic, and social fabric of the region is both our challenge and ambition.

The Foundation adopts an outward-looking approach, promoting innovation, organizing high quality cultural events and fostering collaborations with institutions and organizations. Our aim is to contribute to sustainable local and regional developments, to harmoniously connect agriculture with culture, tourism and gastronomy, and to highlight Messinia’s unique identity on an international level.

Since 2022, the Maniatakeion Foundation Lending Library has served both residents and visitors of Koroni. Its collection – encompassing literature, history, science and children’s books in Greek, English, French and German – is continually enriched through donations and acquisitions.

Through our electronic catalogue, visitors can easily access information on available titles and authors. The Library also hosts educational and cultural events, complementing those held at our main venue, the Tarsouli Hall.

A dedicated section honors the distinguished archaeologist and professor Petros Themelis, a former member of the Foundation’s Board of Directors. This space features a curated selection of his books, personal items, artworks and publications related to Peloponnesian archaeology.
