The Maniatakeion Foundation works to identify, promote, and internationalize the comparative advantages of the region and of Greece as a whole, particularly those linked to natural, historical, and cultural resources. Its interventions aim to:
- Ensure the rational use of regional resources through sustainable, socially beneficial, and economically viable initiatives.
- Support integrated development planning through in-depth studies.
- Facilitate the implementation of European Union programs.
The overarching goal is to enhance productivity and competitiveness, promote extroversion and innovation, and stimulate investment and employment in a sustainable manner.
Taking the above into account, the creation of conditions for the development and improvement of the three sectors of economic activity (agricultural production and fishing, processing, services) can be implemented through the achievement of general and specific objectives.
General Objectives
- Reduce migration to large urban centers.
- Create employment opportunities within the region.
- Strengthen emerging tourism sectors.
Specific Objectives
- Improve income levels and overall welfare, reducing regional inequalities.
- Support demographic stability in rural areas affected by population decline and aging.
- Increase economic efficiency through better regional distribution of activities and population.
- Develop a balanced and functional network of urban, semi-urban, and rural settlements with appropriate infrastructure.
- Implement environmental protection policies across natural, urban, and human-centered environments.
Proposed Actions
- Rational utilization of regional resources.
- Enhancement of competitiveness through incentives such as grants, subsidies, and institutional support for creative initiatives.
- Stimulate competitiveness by encouraging creativity and innovation for the benefit of society.
- Integrated development planning, through in-depth studies, which will aim at raising the level of quality of life and the environment.
- Deployment of EU programs.
