The literary event organized by the Maniatakeion Foundation on the occasion of the 150 year anniversary of the birth of the poet George Drosinis was held successfully on Saturday 21 March at 16:30. The event was implemented with the cooperation of the Koroni high school and the participation of the “Friends of the G. Drosinis Museum”.

During the literary event, the teacher of the Koroni Lyceum Katerina Apostolaki focused on the life and works of poet, while touching poems were recited by students of the school. Subsequently, the President Helen Kokkevi-Vachari and the Head of Branches of the “Friends of the G. Drosinis Museum”, Dina Apostolou discussed the activities of George Drosinis, apart from his poetic and prose work. They analysed, in depth, his work as a senior government officer, translator, journalist, folklore scientist and publisher of influential magazines and newspapers, such as Hestia and the Journal of Magna Grecia.

There followed the viewing of the short film “Amaryllis”, inspired by the name of the poet’s last house, in Kifissia. For the poet, this name captured the essence of feminine beauty.

The lyrics of the poet, set to music and sung by Maria Tsoni accompanied by pianist Anna Maria Mouteveli, were particularly moving.

The evening ended with Helen Tagonidi-Maniatakis, Vice-President of the Maniatakeion Foundation and author, who thanked the audience and wished the continuation of such literary events that promote the spirit and enhance the cultural heritage of our country.

The contribution of the ever-active Kalliopi Maradou, Director of the Koroni High School was essential.
